Bobbe Hickman - Garden Director

As our Florida weather cools down, we welcome back all our northern “Friends".  With the help of our volunteers, we were able to keep most of the weeds under control.  Many new plants have been added, and the rangers even installed a new fence around both the butterfly and cactus gardens. The Gopher Tortoises continue to reside in two large burrows in that garden; so if you take a peek, once in a while you may see them feeding on the Prickly Pear cactus fruit.

Last season, we hired an outside firm to clean out the pond, replace the linings, and do major repairs on the water fountain. Now that this has been completed, we will be adding even more new plantings to the Butterfly Garden.

We're already having an an exciting start for the new season. Come watch us get beautified.

And in case you are wondering, can we use you?  You bet! ...We can always use more help working in the gardens.  If you are willing and available, send an email to Volunteer@FOBBP.org and let us know what you might like to do. Be sure and include your phone number, and someone from the "Friends" will be in touch with you soon!

As another season begins, we are looking forward to the return of all the "Friends" who give so much time in so many ways to make the Friends of Barefoot Beach such a success.  Visitors from around the world have delighted in the many butterflies, flowers and serenity found in the gardens.

Hope to see you all soon!
